The Bite Plane is a dedicated instrument that can assist in determining the occlusal plane.

The intra-oral feature of the instrument is placed on the occlusal surface of the record rim and the extra-oral part indicates to the operator the relationship of the occlusal plane to the facial guide-lines. The operator can adjust the occlusal rim both laterally and in the antero-posterior direction in order to ensure that the occlusal plane is correct.

This simple procedure will avoid unnecessary retries and produce prosthesis with the correct orientation of the occlusal planes. The Bite Plane can also be used at the 'try in' and the 'fit stage' in order to confirm that the recordings have been reproduced accurately.
